US-based PayPal Ventures has bolstered its senior team with the appointment of James Loftus as managing partner.

In his new role, he will lead PayPal’s deals in financial services technology and software globally.

He was most recently global ecosystem lead for growth – mergers and acquisition investments at Cash App, a US-based financial services technology company, for about a year, up to  2022.

He also previously worked at STX Entertainment, a US-based media company, where he was senior vice president of business development and operations. He held the role for less than a year in 2016.

Prior to that, he was partner at Andreessen Horowitz, a US-based investment company, where he was for almost two years from 2014 to 2016.

He joined Andreessen Horowitz from Yahoo, a US-based software company, where he was vice president and head of corporate development for over one year from 2012 to 2014.

PayPal’s recent Africa deals includes backing a $21 million series-A funding round into Stitch, a South Africa-based financial services technology company, delivered earlier in 2022.
